We currently have an exciting career opportunity for a Senior Health & Benefits Analyst (Underwriting background) in our Downtown Toronto office.  This position will uunder general direction, provide group consulting support to the Health and Benefits consultants in the servicing of existing clients and prospects:

  • Preparing quarterly experience reviews and renewal underwriting analyses;
  • Negotiating renewal ratings;
  • Reviewing contracts, employee booklets and financial statements;
  • Preparing specifications for seeking quotations;
  • Analyzing quotations;
  • Writing reports and correspondence;
  • Promoting good public relations by developing strong working relationships with clients, and insurance company representatives;
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of group systems, products and technology, and having a thorough understanding of how these relate to group insurance consulting; and
  • Participating in functional team activities which support the operations of the Health and Benefits practice.

Qualifications and Experience

  • University or community college degree
  • Completion or commitment to obtain Ontario Life insurance license (LLQP) is required;
  • Enrolment/completion of CEBS designation is an asset;
  • Minimum 3 years, ideally 5+ years of progressive experience in an insurance company in group underwriting and or consulting environment in group health & benefits department;
  • Strong understanding of insurance and underwriting principles;
  • A demonstrated ability in mathematics and financial analysis, and demonstrated computer skills using financial spreadsheet programs;
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required, Strong technical skills working with MS Excel, Pivot Tables, V look-ups and Pivot Tables;
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral. Must be a highly motivated, customer service and team oriented individual;
  • Demonstrated abilities to deliver under tight deadlines, develop and manage project timelines, and work effectively on several projects simultaneously is critical;
  • Applicants who do not have a specific consulting/insurance background, but have the required education, skills, and related experience will also be considered; and
  • Candidates with actuarial background/experience, completion of 2+ SOA exams would be considered an asset but not required for this position.
