Aon is looking for Associate Director, Software Business Systems Analyst
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Business Systems Analyst to join our dynamic team. At Aon Life Solutions, we deliver innovative technology in PathWise, the award-winning and industry leading GPU powered High-Performance Computing (HPC) to our clients to solve their most sophisticated and challenging tasks. You will be a key player in bridging the gap between business needs and technical solutions, ensuring the successful delivery of our software products.
As part of an industry-leading team, you will help empower results for our clients by delivering innovative and effective solutions supporting the Strategy and Technology Group (STG), in Toronto, Ontario.

What the day will look like
- Lead workshops, interviews, and JAD (Joint Application Design) sessions with actuaries, financial analysts, and risk managers to gather, analyze, and document business requirements for actuarial modeling, valuation, and reporting.
- Convert complex business logic, mathematical formulas, and data requirements into clear, unambiguous, and detailed functional specifications, user stories, and system design documents.
- Analyze and model current-state actuarial software and processes to identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement. Perform gap analysis between business requirements and system capabilities
- Serve as the functional subject matter expert (SME), effectively bridging the communication gap between non-technical actuarial stakeholders and the IT development and QA teams.
- Collaborate with the Quality Assurance team to develop comprehensive test plans and test cases. Actively participate in and support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure the developed solution meets business objectives.
- Create and maintain a repository of critical documentation, including Business Requirement Documents (BRDs), Functional Specification Documents (FSDs), use cases, and process flow diagrams.
- Manage, analyze and prioritize requirements throughout the software development lifecycle, adapting to changing needs and priorities, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
- Evaluate existing systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization.

As a Business Systems Analyst you will be responsible for analyzing, documenting, and managing requirements for software development projects. You will collaborate closely with stakeholders across various groups, including product management, development, testing, and business users, to understand their needs and translate them into actionable specifications. This role requires a solid understanding of software development methodologies, superb communication skills, and the ability to think critically and analytically.
Skills and experience that will lead to success
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Systems or a related field.
- 10+ years of demonstrable experience as a Software Business Analyst, preferably in the insurance and financial industries.
- Direct experience working with actuarial concepts (e.g., reserves, valuation, pricing, capital modeling) a big plus.
- Hands-on experience with actuarial software such as AXIS, Prophet, RiskAgility, or Polysystems a big plus.
- Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), with hands-on experience in both Agile/Scrum and Waterfall methodologies.
- Experience with GPUs and High Performance Computing a big plus.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to elicit and document sophisticated business requirements.
- Proficiency in using business analysis tools and techniques including requirements management, process mapping, data modeling, prototyping.
- Superb communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work optimally in a team environment.
- Solid attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Experience with Jira, Confluence, Figma, SQL, Visio.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
- Certification in Business Analysis (e.g., CBAP, CCBA, ECBA) is a plus.
